Saturday, 11 February, 2012 Bronx, N.Y. City The Greater White-fronted Goose was, by mid-day, feeding with 500+ Canada Geese on the large sports fields, known as the Parade Ground, immediately east of Upper Broadway within Van Cortlandt Park, Bronx. It was close to a running track, and offered great photo-op's. Not more than 100 yards away, an Eastern Phoebe continued, a bit farther up on a small hill that overlooks the sports fields, to the east - known as Vault Hill (the Phoebe was a bit farther east and lower on the hill on 2/10). A search of some good habitat for Rusty Blackbirds and occasionally good for Wilson's Snipe produced very little, although at least a few Rustys were again around the north and west edges of the VCP lake. Other birds noticed were all of the fairly standard species for mid-winter in N.Y.C. woodland.
Thanks to Andrew Baksh for inspiring another VCP visit...
