at 8pm on Wednesday *December 14*

We will be coordinating volunteers for the Queens County CBC; to be held Sunday December 18th
Make a point of attending so that you can be placed where needed to help us tally the winter status of arguably the best place to bird in New York State

Our Speaker will be *Shawn Billerman *
doing a presentation on Bird Biology and General Fieldwork: a Day in the Life of a Field Researcher

Shawn Billerman will present us with an overview of how fieldwork in ornithology encompasses vast and diverse areas of research, from the breeding biology of Hudsonian Godwits along Hudson Bay to the study of Oregon’s “hybrid zone,” where Red-naped and Red-breasted Sapsuckers have been interbreeding. Queens County Bird Club will host a special presentation by Shawn Billerman, a Cornell Lab of Ornithology graduate. As an avian field researcher, Mr. Billerman will be detailing his day-to-day work studying birds in their natural habitats around the world. He will discuss some of the unusual and cutting-edge research techniques he employs in his studies, from the marshy wilderness of Churchill, Manitoba to remote coastal Chile. Currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Wyoming, Mr. Billerman can only be coaxed indoors once or twice a year. Don’t miss this rare event!

Non members and guests are invited to join us for our meetings featuring noted guest speakers and to join us on our renowned field trips.
