I spent a good part of the day birding the above area. Water levels had
unfortunately increased rather than receded. That left less shorebird habitat
in some spots. Turtle Bay was good as was Onion Avenue. Missionlands Road was
the best spot this morning. I had nothing really exciting, but a Western
Sandpiper was seen by Jim Schlickenrider and some others. There were many
people out today looking for some of the rarities, but I heard no reports of
any. Though numbers had dropped, White-rumped Sandpipers were still the most
common shorebird today. Other highlights were American Golden Plover,
Short-billed Dowitcher, Stilt Sandpiper. At Oil City Road, two Little Blue
Herons and the Cattle Egret were the best birds. A Peregrine Falcon harassed
birds on Missionlands Road. The family of Blue Grosbeaks was seen again today
by the Ulster County Group at Turtle Bay. John Haas
