Birded in my neighborhood for a couple of hours this morning (7-9). First
highlight was an immature BROAD-WINGED HAWK sitting at the top of a dead tree
in the northeast corner of the Dyker Beach Golf Course. Over the years I have
only seen a couple of Broad-wings along the coast of Brooklyn.

Second highlight was a LAPLAND LONGSPUR in the large grassy area between the
Belt Parkway and Gravesend Bay just south of the first parking lot south of the
Verrazanno.

This is my personal earliest fall record by probably close to a month but I
found in talking to others that this is actually about the time one can expect
LALO to start showing up.

When the bird flew off it was joined first by a single bird and then 4 others
which- judging by GIS, color and flight style-may have also been LALO but they
were too distant to be certain.

See you afield,
