Yesterday during a walk at Van Courtlandt Park in the Bronx, we turned up 2
juvenile White-crowned Sparrows. The first was found around the restoration
area behind the Van Courtlandt Museum House and the second was found near
the golf course around Vault Hill.

At Jamaica Bay, the number of shorebirds are down significantly, but there
is diversity in the birds that are still being seen. STILT and WHITE-RUMPED
sandpipers were all seen yesterday. Semipalmated Sandpipers, Short-billed
Dowitchers and Dunlins, continue along with Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs.

Earlier in the week, I had WESTERN SANDPIPERS, LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, a
BAIRD's SANDPIPER and a MARBLED GODWIT.

The American White-Pelican continues on the East Pond. Waterfowl, continue
to increase with nice numbers of Blue and Green-winged Teals abound. Noted
yesterday was a definite increase in Northern Pintails.

Other notables, include SWAMP SPARROWS and a LINCOLN SPARROW (seen behind
the visitor's center). Photos of the Marbled Godwit, Baird's Sandpiper and
other details from the field covering Jamaica Bay and the Van Courtlandt
Bird walk can be seen on my blog.

On the conservation front. A reminder, that tomorrow is the second of two
public hearings on the future of Floyd Bennett Field. This meeting, is
being held at the JBWR visitor's center and runs from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Peter Dorosh, has already sounded the alarm re: these discussions (see his
earlier post on 9-24) and I hope to see many of you in attendance.

Good and responsible birding!
