Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge; 6 Apr

An expanded crew met at Hempstead Lake SP and journeyed to Jamaica Bay Wildlife
Refuge. Only a single Pine and a couple of Yellow-rumped Warblers were among
the few land migrants. There were several BROWN THRASHERS singing.

>From bench 1, we saw a LITTLE BLUE HERON in the marsh with a pair of American
>Oystercatchers. In the bay beyond terrapin trail, there were 8 Horned Grebes,
>one in almost full plumage. Many Shovelers, both Scaup and Ruddy Ducks were in
>the pond along with a number of other waterfowl..

Returning, we found 4 FORSTER'S TERNS diving into the water from the bench 1
area. All in all, a few signs of Spring.
