Hey all, Hope your resolutions are going well?
Maybe one of your resolutions is to learn some new stuff? Or maybe to teach something new to other people? If so maybe you would be interested in giving a talk at NWRUG? A typical talk would last about 20 mins with 10 mins of questions but I know that can be quite intimidating for people (me included) so I am going to suggest a few alternative formats which we could try out. Classic would be the lightning talk. 10 minutes on a topic that you find interesting. Doesn't even have to be Ruby related. Don't fancy giving a talk then what about other ideas?... I'm also going to take inspiration from an unconference I am involved with called Leancamp. Its very similar to Barcamp but for startup people They have a number of formats to pick from - http://leancamp.co/2012/01/formats-of-leancamp-sessions/ I think a fishbowl session, 'post up' session, roundtable (on a particular topic) or a workshop would work really well. There is of course a coding challenge too. Get in touch if you fancy doing a talk or running a session. This can be for this months meetup on the 15th or any other meetup later on in the year. Running a session or talk has its benefits. You will get to address a room full of passionate developers, you get to practice your public speaking, can be a stepping stone to larger events, helps with getting a job or contract...But you know that already ;) If you don't want to run a session but have a topic you would like to see covered please post it up in the group. As a group I'm sure there are things we could cover and help other members. Maybe we need a Ruby and/or Rails 101 for beginners or getting started with freelancing/career tips or maybe you learnt something at work that would be useful? Look forward to being inundated with requests and suggestions Ben -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "NWRUG" group.
