If anyone hasn’t seen Uber yet, it’s fantastic. Just drop a pin on a map and the nearest taxi picks up up and heads over, the trip gets charged to your card so you don’t need cash on you. Yesterday a mate of mine had his days mixed up and wasn’t in town to meet someone with me, he also didn’t have enough cash for a taxi. So I said don't worry, and had an Uber cab go to his address. Knew at all times (a) there was a taxi actually going there, not “just round the corner” and (b) how long he’d be at any point by checking the taxi location and trip ETA. I was able to message the driver to explain it wasn’t me he was picking up (you can see which driver is coming and their star rating, I assume they see your profile too.) Also, it turns out the drivers moving to Uber are the ones who were getting the bad jobs because they weren’t being pally with their firm’s owner… i.e. the nice ones. Uber is completely fair as it sends pickups to the nearest driver, and drivers don’t know where you’re going in advance anyway. I used to do anything to avoid calling a taxi, I actually enjoy it with Uber. It really is a brilliant system.
