Thanks to everyone who came to my talk, especially those who gave feedback
after. It was the first time anyone else had seen the content so I'll be making
a lot of improvements if I do it again (some minor ones I've already put in the
slides). I think this might work better as a workshop, or with a workshop
after, as my main goal is to show how straightforward building a
language/file-format parser in Treetop can be.
Also I'd probably switch the arithmetic example for something that needed less
code to implement. I would have done a JSON parser, but I know Ads wanted to
have a go at that himself some time, and he was expecting to be there.
*cough*Adam*cough*
If I did a syntax highlighter again I'd probably do a Markdown -> HTML
converter or something similar. Syntax highlighters are actually quite
straightforward, but I didn't have enough time to do the SimpleRuby highlighter
justice on the night. If anyone would like me to walk through how it works, you
can usually catch me in NTP or Takk…
