Just a quick post to say I'll be hosting a free Clojure Dojo at the Manchester Madlab this Monday @7pm.
For those who've never heard of Clojure, it's a fantastic language which many Rubyists enjoy and can learn from. It has incredible meta-programming capabilities, and state of the art concurrency features such as, Agents (like extensible Actors), Immutable Data (by default) and a Software Transactional Memory. It's also fast, scalable and runs on the JVM, whilst a subset of it (ClojureScript) can be compiled into Javascript to run in an javascript vm or interpreter (yes people run it under node/v8). Here's a video on Clojure for Ruby programmers: http://confreaks.net/videos/191-rubyconf2009-clojure-for-ruby-programmers Anyway you're all more than welcome to come along, If you have any questions feel free to ask me either directly or in this thread.
