I think there has been quite a few comparisons done between the two, for example: http://www.joeandmotorboat.com/2008/02/28/apache-vs-nginx-web-server-performance-deathmatch/ One of the main reasons we made the switch is that nginx is much lighter on memory and it's configuration is a bit less obscure than apache's, but I guess that depends on what you're used to.
