> Do you see any error in dmesg when starting the application?

Not as far as I can see.

I see various PF_RING messages concluding with:-

[PF_RING] pf_ring initialized correctly

And various i40e messages concluding with:-

[PF_RING-ZC] i40e_up_complete: attach eth0 [pf start=3758096384
len=16777216][cache_line_size=128][MSIX enabled]

After our application has attempted start-up and failed, we see two additional
dmesg entries:-

device eth0 entered promiscuous mode
device eth0 left promiscuous mode

'ifconfig eth0' yields:-

The contents of /proc/net/pf_ring/dev/eth0/info are:-

Name: eth0
Index: 7
Address: 48:DF:37:69:AB:80
Polling Mode: NAPI/ZC
Type: Ethernet
Family: Intel i40e
TX Queues: 1
RX Queues: 1
Num RX Slots: 4096
Num TX Slots: 4096

Only the Index field has changed (from 47 to 7) as far as I can see.

A.

Some more info that may/may not be useful:-

Out of interest I removed the "zc:" from the device name, and immediately got
the "Wrong ring version". A quick google revealed a thread from your good
self, and of course I had been hopping between 7.0.0 and 7.4.0 for
fault-finding. The 'rmmod' command was refusing to unload the pf_ring.ko
module because of an unnamed dependency, and it looks like a 7.0.0 kernel
module was being called from our 7.4.0 application.

A quick reboot of the box and re-load of the correct 7.4.0 drivers has resolved
that issue, and we can now write to the network via the "eth0" device.

Using "zc:eth0" now produces a different error message - "socket type not
supported".

Hi Alfredo,

The contents of /proc/net/pf_ring/dev/eth0/info are:-

Name: eth0
Index: 47
Address: 48:DF:37:69:AB:80
Polling Mode: NAPI/ZC
Type: Ethernet
Family: Intel i40e
TX Queues: 1
RX Queues: 1
Num RX Slots: 4096
Num TX Slots: 4096

In the working environment (v7.4.0 on Centos7), the contents are the same
except for MAC and Index.
