Hello,

Hi Hank,

First time user of ntopng here.

I installed the pre-compiled binary for Ubuntu 64-bit.

Everything work as expected. I start ntopng with -F db to enable the Historical
interface with sqlite.

I wonder how others have managed storage and data retention with ntopng.

I have my listening interface on a busy span port. It collects lots of data.

Is there a data summarization feature? Suppose I want to keep 1 week of
real-time data, then start summarizing etc. Or to simplify, suppose I just want
to keep 1 month of data and then rollover.

What's the best way to go about doing this?

ntopng manages data retention autonomously. Historical data are kept in RRD or in sqlite databases which are purged of old entries periodically (one year currently). As of the summarization feature, ntopng has a historical interface which allows to retrieve data for a certain time interval; such historical interface is about to be improved dramatically in the next version or so of the professional ntopng. The professional ntopng version also has a reporting feature which allows to generate HTML reports for a certain time interval and with custom filters.

Thanks,
Arianna

Thanks!

Hank
