I can select the historical interface, and specify the time interval I want, but then it seems to do nothing. This sounds like a bug that was recently fixed. Are you using the stable version or a nightly build? In case you are using a stable version, could you please try the SVN version (or a nightly build) and check if loading historical data works as expected there?
