PS: resource requirements are more than jsu throughput, pps is huge as is number of flows and their lifetime/creation rate rate. I single ftp flow at 400Mb/s and 1400 byte packets is far easier than a few thousand of 200K flows of 100 byte packets.
Regardless, 300-400Mb/s of "typical" University type traffic shouldn't be an issue on "decent" modern hardware with a decent NIC. When you get closer to Gb PF_Ring will most likely be a requirement.
