As I mentioned in a previous reply, that didn't work for me; it seems there
is no placehead=hidden option to \startsection.

However, using
        \setuphead[chapter][placehead=no]
and then writing one's own "\myChapter" macro, which (among other things)
calls
        \chapter{...}
does what I need to do.

Thanks for the "placehead=" suggestion!
