the duration of simulation is related to many conditions that you are doing the simulation under those. for example if memory needed by ns is greater than computer's RAM, the swapping between RAM and virtual memory will speed down your simulation in a great scale. beside, as far as I know, ns2 has been written in one thread style, so it cannot use parallel computing on multi-core computers. you should add the configuration of the network you are simulating to the list! difference between simulation time for 200 and 230 nodes in ns2 when other configurations is same might last a day!
