Hey, David. I think that notmuch-mua-mail is not the correct function. It works fine if you just use 'm' to invoke a new mail compose, which actually calls notmuch-mua-new-mail. I've been using this patch and it works quite well, particularly if you set message-kill-buffer-on-exit. jamie.
