This is an interesting one.... while I can _absolutely_ see your point that the prior behavior is more desirable from an aesthetic/annoyance perspective, the current behavior seems more "truthful" in that obsolete data (where your filter has not been applied) can not be misconstrued as current/truthful. The only data displayed is that which has the filter(s) applied. I could go either way on this, though.
