Thanks for the input here. Converting this to an "ideas" Discussion thread, since at the moment this is not planned for the aforementioed performance impacts, and we're not calling it a bug. We're open to a proposal and/or PR that would give filters a _configurable_ operator, where a filter creator can select "in" (default) or other LIKE/ILIKE options with options like %x, %x%, or x%. Then we can add performance warnings, and everyone wins.
