Review Comment:
`callback` is now treated as optional here, but the guard only checks
truthiness. For consistency and safety (e.g., if a non-function value is
passed), prefer checking `typeof callback === "function"` before invoking. It
would also be beneficial to apply the same optional-callback handling
consistently across other effects that invoke `callback()` (e.g., `update` in
the provided context excerpt currently calls `callback()` unconditionally), so
callers can omit callbacks without risking runtime errors.

Review Comment:
If the `auth/update` dispatch isn’t found, this will throw (`Cannot read
properties of undefined`) and obscure the real failure. Consider asserting the
`.find(...)` result is defined (or using a more explicit helper) before
indexing `[0]` to produce a clearer test failure message.
