I changed the title from "Update to Java 1.8" to "Update to Java 11" since 
there have been even more awesome improvements in particular to the internal 
string representation. Also Java 1.8 is no longer supported.... actually, the 
current LTS version is Java 17, but that might be a bit early still to call for.
