In the end I resorted to checking the running kernel version against what was available for Jessie (and in the VM test). The server in question was on `3.14.x` whereas the latest for Jessie at the moment if `3.16.x` so updated that and had a few tense moments on reboot. On coming backup `couchjs` is behaving exactly as expected and the verify DB tests from Fauxton work perfectly. Many thanks for the responses. Perhaps the docs could mention supported kernel versions or something?
