Q9>\n\nThe rapid proliferation of artificial intelligence systems raises u
rgent questions about the values embedded in their design. This talk explo
res what it means to develop AI informed by Catholic social teaching\, exa
mining the practical tensions that arise when principles such as human dig
nity\, subsidiarity\, and the common good encounter the technical realitie
s of system design. Drawing on both theological reflection and empirical r
esearch into AI development practices\, the talk considers how Catholic in
tellectual tradition can move beyond critique to offer constructive guidan
ce for building AI systems that serve human flourishing. Rather than propo
sing a single blueprint\, it argues for an approach that holds design trad
e-offs in productive tension\, attending to the material choices developer
s make while remaining anchored in a coherent moral vision.\n\nTomislav is
an Assistant Professor of Information Systems at the Department of Manage
ment\, a Data Science Institute Affiliate\, and an associate of the Religi
on and Global Society Unit. For his PhD research conducted at the KIN Cent
er for Digital Innovation (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam)\, he used ethnogr
aphic methods to study development and use of artificial intelligence in b
iotechnology and agriculture. His current research explores how artificial
intelligence is developed\, interpreted\, and governed in religious conte
xts. He holds a master’s degree in Logic from the Institute for Logic\,
Language\, and Computation (University of Amsterdam)\, and bachelor’s de
grees in Communication Sciences and Philosophy (University of Zagreb).\n\n
