FWIW on my web site I have favicon.ico in the root directory, and Netsurf displays it to the left of the address bar. This is using a recent development version of Netsurf - which version are you on? In Firefox 19.0.2 I get the favicon displaying on the left of the tab I have the web site open in, and it appears on every page. In IE10 I get it in both the address bar and on the tabs. In Google Chrome, I get it on the left of the tabs as in Firefox.
