My initial thought is probably that they're typically large pieces of
HTML and CSS, and your PC is probably an order of magnatude faster than
your RISC OS machines.

(Plus, Wikipedia, if I recall correctly, uses large images with CSS
clipping.  This is a big performance win if you have a disc cache, which
we don't, and Firefox/Chrome do.)
