People may be using this for completely different reasons (address

This is what I was trying to get across in my previous messages, but you
say it more eloquently.
So how about a new address flag? We still have some vacancies there.
I have no problem with that and might even work on the user space
daemons to support it. But I don't have the inclination to try to
develop a more invasive (but general purpose) kernel patch at this time.
Currently we are only really using this on 2.4 kernels, so the patch was
submitted with the hope that when we transition to using 2.6 kernels it
would already be in place.
