That makes a lot of sense.

On a related note, I'm also seeing '<hidden>' in the results when
wpa_supplicant scans for a specific SSID. If it's a response to an
SSID-specific probe, shouldn't ieee80211 be able to work out what the
SSID should be? It's rejecting it because "<hidden>" doesn't match the
SSID it probed for.

(This is bcm43xx+softmac, but it's still the ieee80211 code which is
handling the probe responses.)
