From the inputs I've received so far both on this PR and in a private discussion, it looks like this fix may not be of interest in the mainline master branch? If that's the case, I don't mind closing this PR. As for backports, I think this fix (if it looks fine) does add value for Java 11 and 17 where jar indexing is enabled by default.
