When you convert to vss mode the interfaces are renamed. The interface in switch 2 that was g1/1 becomes 2/1/1. Any configuration applied to g1/1 will be rejected because that interface no longer exists. If you intended to keep interface configuration, you will need to reapply that to the new interface name.
