Quick comment on issue 1 - the code used of for the address fetching which fails with the primary address error is lifted from upstream charm helpers, so I can make a correction here but we'll need to be sure to fix upstream as well. The upstream charm helpers change was added elsewhere to support the prometheus charm becoming cmr aware.
