The symptom I had when I was running my diamond monster mx300 was near perfect sound in one speaker, and a feedback like sound in the other with all static which grew steadily louder.  I've literally spent DAYS on this one before throwing in the towel.

I'm glad to hear I'm not alone on this one. I've been really racking my
brain on this one. A new test I tried, when running TvTime and also
running "aplay /dev/dsp" at the same time and muting the line in (thus
only playing the recorded audio), it DOES play in both speakers and
there are no "snaps" "crackles" or "pops" in the audio, just a mild
hiss. However, once I switch to the TV in MythTV, it goes to one
speaker and the rice crispy effect is back. Anyone with any ideas let
me know. I'll try anything at this point.

I had a similar problem using a Diamond Monster Sound mx300 and finally
just gave up. I yanked the card and put in a SB Live! 24, but now it's
not working at all (in record). Sorry I don't have any advice to give
you, just know that there are others who have experienced this problem
as well.

Currently my audio is only working out of one speaker. I've been
playing around in alsamixer for hours and hours on end and still no
result. Here's the situation: capture card is Hauppauge WinTV 401,
sound card is a a Creative Labs SB Live!, running Fedora Core 4 x86_64
with KDE. The "Line" is set to mute and is the capture device (when
unmuted, sound is in both speakers), "Capture" is also set to capture
(no sound without it, but must stay at 0% or it's really bad quality)
"Wave" is turned up, "AC97" is set to 0% and "AC97 Capture" is turned
up. In MythTV, the audio device is set to /dev/dsp. One experiment I
tried was using the Mic-in on my card. I was able to get both speakers
to work, but the sound quality was just terrible, both the captured and
recorded. I also tried using my onboard sound, but there was no
difference from the SB Live! Please Help!
