Did some more testing on this and sure enough: Disabling XV made the CPU peak at 100% without really doing a good job; Stuttering in both Audio and Video. In other words it seems like 6.9.0 needs about twice as much CPU cycles to do the same jobs. Not good. My CPU is an Athlon 2000+.
