There are various how-tos on JP1 sites related to this but you basically use that cable to connect to your Windows PC and use software to program your IR remote to send the same IR commands as your IR keyboard. While most Myth users go through LIRC with an IR remote, I have found that programming my IR remote to emulate my IR keyboard allows me to use a standard PS/2 connector and the IR receiver to bypass LIRC. This has resulted, for me, in finer control over keys as well as faster response times from the remote.
