for some reason the headers that came with my kernel wouldn't allow Myth or Mplayer to access the card (azap worked fine). So I downloaded the driver from pchdtv.com. I figured, well, I know the card and driver works, its just programs I'm compiling so maybe the header files with this kernel are fubar. I checked and the header files were different so I copied the newer driver headers over the ones that came with the kernel, recompiled mplayer and it worked, so I recompiled mythtv and it worked. problem solved!
