Sorry -- it's been a little while since I've read much on the mythtv list. But this is one of the few complaints I've had about myth, so I'm curious:
What is SVN?

That's the way it works. This behaviour changes in
SVN and is much more user friendly. In SVN you choose
the channel in the EPG and myth automagically changes
inputs.
