If a theme is not designed for 100dpi, it's broken.

So what's the recommended DPI for wide-screen (16:9) TVs?

If I set my X config. to 100x100 DPI, then Myth thinks I've a 4:3 TV and have issues getting the playback aspect ration correct. I put a 'correct' DisplaySize into xorg.conf to ensure Myth realised I had 16:9, but that didn't do the themes any favours.

I've now nadgered it to be 100x133, but I have a couple on places where I suspect this is stuffing vertical font positioning (as it's 133 not 100). I didn't actually notice that much difference when I did this, FWIW; I was expecting all the fonts to suddenly be vastly different sizes.
