Are you running Fedora Core 3?  The SELinux stuff in it prevents this
from working properly.  You can either run mythfrontend as root, or if
you're willing to be bleeding-edge, run kernel 2.6.12-rc3 or later as
described here: http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/131634
