I have a weird scenario.
This unfortunately, seems to happen to my wife quite often, yet I can't reproduce it. She seems to be able to crash mythtv just by looking at it.
Ok, so because she can crash the box all the time, I added the tip from Jarod's guide to map a button on the remote to a irexec event and have it run a script to start the front end again. Works great (for me).
It seems that 50% of the time when my wife crashes myth, the remote stops responding and thus she can't restart the frontend. However, when I ssh into the box and run irw, I can see that the button is in fact being received.
I'm not sure what to ask next. I guess my question is: How is it that the button press is clearly getting from the remote to the box, yet the script is not getting run? What is the best way to test this (perhaps the script is getting run, but there is a problem with the script!).
Also, how would I restart the frontend for her remotely? I know I can reboot the machine, but sometime the backend is in the middle of recording something, so I'd rather not reboot. If I try just typing "mythfrontend", I get the "could not connect to X" (or something like that), which I expect. Is there a way in linux to start something for a different user? (same user, different instance of the user)
Any help would be good.
