the HOWTO is good, but you can avoid a LOT of work using the binary releases. all you have to do then are steps 5 thru 5.4.
> Upon looking at mythbackend.log it says the client is trying to use > protocol version 8 while the server (mythtv 0.16) is using protocol 13. my log says that too, yet it can play recordings. what version version of mvpmc are you using? i had similar problems using some of the older binary releases. make sure your using the latest 2005 release. if you think your dongle.bin.mvpmc file is bad, i have a known working one on my ftp site you can try to rule that out. i'll send the link off list. also, check your /tftpboot/dongle.bin.mvpmc.config. it should look something like the following if playing back vi nfs, assuming you store recording in /myth/tv on your backend: mkdir /myth/tv /etc/nfsmount.sh 192.168.0.2:/myth/tv /myth/tv /bin/mvpmc -M -f /etc/helvR10.fnt -s 192.168.0.2 -o svideo -a 4:3 -m ntsc -r /myth/tv & my /etc/exports looks like this: /myth/tv 192.168.0.10(ro) if playing back via the mythtv protocol: rdate -s 192.168.0.2 /bin/mvpmc -M -f /etc/helvR10.fnt -s 192.168.0.2 -o svideo -a 4:3 -m ntsc &
