Done that. Swapped to 'development' disk (also Mythbuntu 14.04) and did 'apt-get update' and 'apt-get upgrade'.
Results QT & GUI sizes=zero: bug absent QT & Gui=1920x1080: Bug present OpenGL & GUI=zero bug absent OpenG & GUI=1920x1080 bug present. ie switch to OpnGL makes no difference. I'm running Mythbuntu 12.10. It really seems to be hit or miss. It doesn't seem to matter if it's a reboot or a start from a powered off state. If I close mythfrontend and restart it from the menu the menu bar is hidden like it should be. I'm assuming it's a race condition but I don't really know where to start debugging.
