Is this still an issue? I'm unable to reproduce and I'd think if it was
a widespread issue I'd be hearing more of it.

loss of gui after latest update
Status in Mythbuntu, Ubuntu derivative focused upon MythTV:

Bug description:
update thru gui came up in the last few days, ran the update, on
completion the pop up showed "restart to complete the update" plus
some other updates available. Clicked on the update button. After
restart the Mythbuntu startscreen appears, when that goes and the
reboot completes, I am now left at the command line/ terminal and no
gui. Tried "startx" but it isn't found. Re ran update and upgrade from
command line, and although there were some updating, gui no longer
starts. Back end appears to be running as it can be found from my
notebook thru the webpage, but the front/back end gui doesnt have gui
