Is this still an issue? I'm unable to reproduce and I'd think if it was a widespread issue I'd be hearing more of it.

Clicked on the update button. After restart the Mythbuntu startscreen appears, when that goes and the reboot completes, I am now left at the command line/ terminal and no gui. Tried "startx" but it isn't found. Re ran update and upgrade from command line, and although there were some updating, gui no longer starts.
