I just installed RedHat 8.0 with MySQL support. Because of different reasons I
then wished to upgrade to the newest version, and unistalled the package that
came with Redhat.

I installed afterwards these packages:

MySQL 3.23.53 Server
MySQL 3.23.53 Client programs
MySQL 3.23.53 Libraries and Header files for development
MySQL 3.23.53 Client shared libraries

When I now try to start the deamon, i get this error messages(taken from the
error file in /var/lib/mysql):

021015 08:19:19 mysqld ended

021015 08:21:05 mysqld started
Fatal error: Can't change to run as user 'mysql' ; Please check that the user
exists!
021015 8:21:05 Aborting

021015 8:21:05 /usr/sbin/mysqld: Shutdown Complete

021015 08:21:05 mysqld ended

The user mysql exists, initialy as user-id 27. I have tried to remove the user,
and add it again, and this time it has user-id 501

Permissions in the the different directories are also correct, set to user and
group "mysql:mysql"

Can anybody help to get mysqld to change user?

I haved checked the dokumentation...

regards
