If you do :
$ cat >test.file
Some text. ^D $

And then use LOAD_FILE(), the data doesn't show up.
But if you do:

$ cat >test.file
Some text.
^D $

Then the text shows up. Better saying, if you create a file without a 
trailing newline, the text does not show up, but if you put a trailing 
newline, it appears.
