using:
CC=gcc CFLAGS="-O3" CXX=gcc CXXFLAGS="-O3 -felide-constructors
-fno-exceptions -fno-rtti" ./configure
--prefix=/usr/local/mysql-3.23.49
--with-low-memory --enable-assembler
