I install MYSQL on Redhat 7.1 using RPMs ...
I start the server the same way you do, but
to start it automatically, i went to the control
panel (GNOME) Programs->System->Control Panel
and enter the services and levels configuration (Run level Manager)
and move the MSQLD service from NON Automatically Start, to the
panel of automatically start on level 3....
I think you can do it also running /usr/sbin/setup
this will promt the text tool configuration, select from the
menu services and then search for MYSQLD and select it ...
the only think is that i am new to redhat or linux, so I don?t
know in what level will MSQLD start if you do it using the texttool...
I suppose the there other more advanced users on linux, that
can tell us how to do it using only commands ...

Subject: RH Linux 7.1 Binary Install Configure and Auto start/stop
Good Morning.
I recently installed mysql-3.23.41-pc-linux-gnu-i686.tar.gz onto RH Linux
7.1 via MySQL Manual instructions for "Installing a MySQL Binary
Distribution". I can start the server via safe_mysqld with no apparent
problems.
Question #1:
My Linux/MySQL newbie question...Do you need to run ./configure for a
binary installation?
Question #2:
Can you setup RH Linux 7.1 to automatically start/stop the MySQL (binary
installation) server via xinetd and services? If so, how?
Thanks in advance.
