mos,
I'm looking for a free, perhaps open source, case tool for MySQL 5.x.
(Older MySQL 4.0 case tools may not work because of the changes to pw
security in 4.1 and later)
I tried MySQL Workbench 1.1.5 alpha but I keep getting errors "The
following error occurred while launching the object editor. Error reading
RoutineUce.MaxRightChar:Property MaxRightChar does not exist". It is
still in alpha so I guess bugs are to be expected.
So is there anything else out there that you'd recommend? I don't need
something with a lot of bells and whistles. I'm primarily looking for
something that can reverse engineer a database, create a diagram of it,
make some changes, and update the database with the changes.
http://fabforce.net/dbdesigner4/ ...is pretty funky and meets the
requirements.

Phil,
FabForce doesn't work with MySQL 5 because of the new password
encryption. Fabforce never lets me connect to a database. I suppose I could
revert back to the old PW mgt scheme but that may weaken the security.
I'm getting all sorts of errors in WorkBench Windows like
java.lang.NullPointerException when trying to reverse engineer a database,
then if I continue the Finalization process just runs forever (it appears
the animated dolphin is swimming all the way from Australia to New York)
when it says "Removing schema test".
I am also getting errors when just dropping an empty table onto the main
view.
So far I'm not that impressed with Workbench and haven't gotten so much as
one table defined. :(
Are there any other free case tools out there?
Mike
