What about this:



mysql> show variables like 'lower_case_%';

+------------------------+-------+

| Variable_name          | Value |

+------------------------+-------+

| lower_case_file_system | OFF   |

| lower_case_table_names | 0     |

+------------------------+-------+



I think it is possible to make a stored procedure in MySQL 5 which 

will be a wrapper for 'show ...' statement.
