Workspaces are convenient for quick access to the environment you work in:
current view, zoom, advanced filters, highlighted tasks, etc. For example,
on one tab you zoom in on the current project, on the second tab you check
the shopping list, on the third tab you process tasks in the Inbox.
Switching between tabs with a click.

If you'd like to try the Dashboard feature, you'll need to install version
6. There is a 15-day trial of the new Pro version for registered users of
version 5. You can find more information about upgrading here:
https://www.mylifeorganized.net/announcements/windows-mlo-6-upgrade.shtml

Please note that currently, dashboards operate with pre-made views only and
do not support adding filters "on the fly" as the main window does. For
instance, there is no option to zoom into a specific branch. Instead, you
need to create a view that displays the specific task branch and then open
that view in the dashboard.
