I've recently started using the "hide branch" feature quite a lot, mainly
to achieve the very effect you are describing (hiding a list which is
useful to the task, but unneeded in the active tasks view). I simply select
all sub-tasks as a group, and mark them as "hide" with a single click. This
action is fast and does not feel like anything is missing or that another
feature would improve this technique. A benefit of this approach is that
you can hide some of the sub-tasks, but not others.
